Surplus Sales

Public Surplus Auctions and Sales

Henrico County Code states that all sales of surplus property shall be sold on the basis of (1) competitive bids or (2) public auction or (3) firm price offered to all persons wishing to participate in the sales. The Purchasing Division is charged with ensuring responsible disposal of all surplus vehicles, equipment and supplies which is no longer needed by the County or the school system. The disposal of unclaimed personal property collected by the Division of Police will also be sold.

 Surplus Property Sale

The County of Henrico offers surplus property for sale at a firm price at monthly surplus sales.  In accordance with Code of the County of Henrico, Virginia, Chapter 16-12.b “Sale of Surplus Property”, surplus property is first offered to taxpayers and residents of the County then it is offered to the general public.  Dates for surplus property sales are as follows:

Public Surplus property sales will be held on the first TUESDAY of every month 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon – Surplus Property Warehouse is open to taxpayers and residents of the County of Henrico. 12:00 noon – 4 p.m. – Surplus Property Warehouse is open to taxpayers and residents of the County of Henrico and to the General Public.

All surplus property purchased must be removed by 4:30 p.m. on the day of the sale unless arrangements are made with the Surplus Property Administrator for an alternate pickup time and day.

The first Surplus Property Sale date of 2021 will be January 5, 2021.

Surplus Property Sale Locations:

County of Henrico Surplus Warehouse at 4323 Carolina Avenue, Henrico, VA 23222 (Richmond Distribution Center Complex)

Acceptable forms of identification to verify Henrico County Taxpayer/Resident include:

    • Driver’s license with a zip code within Henrico County
    • Henrico real estate tax bill
    • Henrico personal property tax bill
    • Henrico utilities bill
    • Henrico voter registration card

Items for sale include computers, computer tables, desks, folding tables and chairs, filing cabinets, typewriters, woodworking and sheet metal shop equipment, supplies and other miscellaneous property declared surplus by the County.  All surplus items are sold “As is – No Warranty – Where is” and must be removed from the premises within 24 hours of purchase.  All sales are final, no refunds, returns, or exchanges.

The County of Henrico utilizes GovDeals Online Government Surplus Auctions (GovDeals.com), an online auction service for the sale of items not sold by competitive bids or monthly sales.  Current online auctions can be viewed at www.govdeals.com.  To search for County of Henrico specific items, select “Advanced Search” and “Henrico County, VA” in the “Seller field.

The County of Henrico utilizes Motley’s, Inc. for the sale of vehicles and heavy equipment.  Current Motley’s Auction items can be viewed at  motleys.com/richmondautoauction
