The Service Through Opportunity Program (S.T.O.P.) was created as an alternative for the 14th District Court Judges to weekend sentencing of children to secure detention. This is a collaborative effort between Henrico County Recreation and Parks, the 14th District Court Service Unit and the Henrico Juvenile Detention Home. Under staff supervision, children will assist in park maintenance (i.e. Trash and litter pick-up) S.T.O.P staff will provide curfew checks on Fridays and Saturdays. Children failing to comply with the program requirements will be placed in secure detention for the remainder of their original court ordered sentence.
Needless to say, all of the services that are offered are conducted under the policies and procedures developed to insure the safe and secure custody of all children detained as well as the communities’ safety.
