Short Pump Interchange

Project Status: Study

Estimated Cost: $750K

Magisterial District:   Three Chopt

The County of Henrico is undertaking an Interchange Access Report (IAR) study in coordination with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Goochland County, and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to identify potential solutions to address the safety and operational issues along the I-64 corridor from the Gaskins Road interchange to the Route 288 interchange.

The study is being conducted to comply with both state and federal requirements for changes to the interstate highway system. Advancement of identified interchange improvements are subject to both state and federal approval. Once the proposed improvements have been approved, the county will work on a funding strategy to construct the identified improvements.

Some potential improvements could include the following options:

I-64 & Broad Street in Short Pump Improvements

I-64 & N Gayton Rd Interchange Improvements

A survey was developed to solicit input from residents regarding perceived operational and safety issues in and around the Short Pump area – specifically along the Broad Street corridor near the interchange with I-64. The survey was posted on-line from December 16, 2022 until January 2, 2023. The summary of the results from that survey are available by clicking the link below.
