Nuckols Trail

The County of Henrico will be constructing accommodations to increase pedestrian access and connectivity. The following improvements will be constructed, including: 

  • A new, a 12 foot wide multi-use trail that is approximately 1 mile in length that includes a pedestrian bridge over the Meredith Branch tributary.   
  • This trail would provide a connection from Springfield Road to Francistown Road.   
  • Approximately 0.4 miles of the trail will be on existing Nuckols Road while 0.6 miles will follow the existing alignment off road.
  • The project will occur in multiple phases. Phase 1 is to be funded locally and be constructed from Springfield Road to Broad Meadows Road.  
  • The County is applying for Transportation Alternatives grant funding to construct Phase 2, from Broad Meadows Road to Francistown Road.      

 

Estimated Schedule: (Month Year) 

  • Design began June 2023. 
  • Right-of-way acquisition is anticipated to begin August 2023. 
  • Utility relocation is not anticipated with this project. 
  • Advertisement for construction is anticipated to begin October 2024. 
  • Construction is anticipated to begin March 2025. 

Progress to Date

  • Henrico County has proceeded with applying for Transportation Assistance grant funding during the summer of 2023. 
  • On Wednesday, September 18, 2019 the Henrico County Department of Public Works held a Citizen Information Meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss the study portion project.
