Hauling Permit

This service will be moving to Build Henrico, the county’s all new online land management solution.
The Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for the issuance of hauling permits for oversized loads that will be traveling on Henrico County maintained roads. A Certificate of Liability Insurance made out to the County of Henrico must be provided before your permit can be issued. Our address is shown below. Allow 48 hours to obtain a hauling permit. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) handles oversized loads traveling on State maintained roads within Henrico County.
Single Trip Hauling Permits
Henrico County will issue a hauling permit for a single trip oversized load. However, if the trip is going to travel over state routes and will require a DMV Hauling Permit, the applicant can obtain the County Hauling Permit from DMV at the same time the DMV Hauling Permit is issued. This is a convenience that was set up to speed up the process. The fee is $5 per permit, whether issued by the County or DMV.
Superload trips that will be driven on County maintained roads will need a hauling permit issued by Henrico County. County hauling permits are to be emailed to HaulingPermit@henrico.us. The fee is $5 per permit.

Blanket Hauling Permits
All blanket hauling permits will be issued by DMV, whether for County or State maintained roads. Blanket hauling permits are issued for one year for County maintained roads. Go to DMV’s website for information pertaining to blanket hauling permits on County maintained roads. The Virginia Blanket Hauling Permit Locality Addendum for Henrico County is applicable to oversized loads traveling on Henrico County maintained roads. This addendum may be obtained by DMV at the same time the original single year blanket permit is obtained.
Superload blanket trips that include County maintained roads will need a hauling permit issued by Henrico County. County hauling permits are to be emailed to HaulingPermit@henrico.us. This is a single year permit and the fee is $5 per permit.

The permit fee is $5.00 per permit and the check needs to be made out to “County of Henrico”. The fee needs to be mailed to the address listed above.
