CPR/First Aid Classes
Training in CPR and first aid (formal certification) is offered to citizens by the Henrico County volunteer rescue squads.
“Hands Only” CPR and AED training: The Division of Fire will provide Hands Only CPR and AED training to laypersons in our community. Laypersons can be defined as persons who are NOT required to be “certified”. They are not firefighters, police officers, lifeguards, or nurses. They are regular citizens in the community who simply want to be prepared to respond to a cardiac emergency should they witness one. About 80% of the time, cardiac emergencies are witnessed by a loved one or a friend. Knowing what to do before professionals arrive can mean the difference between life and death.
Hands Only CPR emphasizes “compressions of the chest” and AED use. AEDs are Automated External Defibrillators. These electrical devices are often found in public buildings and can be used to treat a person whose heart is not beating effectively.
A class will typically last about an hour. An instructor can present the class at a location of your choosing. Depending on availability, classes may also be offered at libraries throughout the county or at the Henrico Training Center. Class size is limited to 16.
