Henrico 4-H to offer Power Protectors workshop for youth March 9 and 23

Henrico 4-H Youth Development will offer a half-day STEM Challenge workshop on Saturdays, March 9 and 23, to give youth an opportunity to apply critical thinking skills while learning about renewable energy.

The Power Protectors workshop is designed for youth in third through fifth grade. Each session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Children of God Victory Tabernacle, 1146 Wilkinson Road.

Participants will work together in several activities to save Energy Island, a fictional island in danger of becoming unplugged unless the Power Protectors can save it with renewable and sustainable energy.

The cost to participate is $25, with online registration due by Friday, Feb. 23 for the March 9 event and Friday, March 8 for the March 23 event.

Participants will use foundational skills in the STEM areas of study – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – while they consider such issues as the unsustainability of carbon-based energy and different methods of creating renewable energy.
