Henrico 4-H offers Just R.E.A.D club on agriculture

Henrico 4-H is offering a new special interest, or SPIN, club on agriculture to help youth explore such topics as apples, pumpkins, poultry, pigs, dairy cattle, pollinators, grains and more.

The club, called Just R.E.A.D. – Reading and Engaging in Agriculture Daily – will meet next from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Tuckahoe Area Library, 1901 Starling Drive. The club is intended for youth ages 5 through 13, as of Sept. 30, 2022. Participation is free, but registration is required each month, as space is limited.

Henrico 4-H also is offering Just R.E.A.D. at-home learning kits, covering such topics as soybeans, wheat, composting and more. The kits, which are not required for participation in the club, include at least one book as well as a lesson plan, a hands-on activity and a surprise.

Kits are $10 if purchased monthly. All 10 kits are available for $85 if an order is placed by Friday, Sept. 24 and payment is made by Friday, Oct. 1. Kits will be available at the Just R.E.A.D. club meetings and the Henrico Extension Office on specified dates.

Payments can be made by cash, check or money order. Checks should be payable to “Henrico 4-H Fund.” Payments can be left at the Henrico Extension Office between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays or mailed to Henrico 4-H, PO Box 90775, Henrico, VA 23273. More information is available online.
