Police Academies for Citizens, Seniors, and Youths

The Police Division conducts two Citizens Police Academies and two Senior Citizens Police Academies annually. After the school year ends, the Division conducts its annual Youth Police Academy.

  • Law enforcement operations
  • The Criminal Justice system
  • Crime prevention
  • Crime trends and how they affect your community, and much more

Also, you will get to experience some hands-on “training” activities, meet Division staff members and officers, and see live demonstrations. Academies may also feature guest speakers who will discuss topics such as Severe Weather Preparedness, Consumer Protection, Con & Fraud Prevention, and other topics of interest.

How to Receive this Service

To apply for the Citizens Police Academy or Senior Citizens Police Academy, you must fill out and submit an application. Applications will be accepted prior to each academy, and turned in by the posted application deadline. Check the front page of the Police Division’s webpage for Citizens, Senior Citizen, and Youth Police Academy announcements.

Additional Information

After completing the Citizens Academy, continue as an ambassador for the Division through the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Senior Citizen Academy graduates may continue as ambassadors for the Division through the SALT (Seniors And Law Enforcement Together) – Triad program, and graduates of the Youth Academy may continue as ambassadors for the Division through the Law Enforcement Explorer program.  We also welcome graduates from all academies to apply for our volunteer program.
