What is required to pump-out a septic system in Henrico County?
Henrico citizens that have a septic system on their property that is within a Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area are required to have their septic system pumped out by a licensed sewage handler at least once every five (5) years. This is in accordance with Henrico County’s Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance, Chapter 24-106.3. Septic system owners may elect, as an alternative to this pump-out requirement, to submit documentation that the system was inspected by a certified operator or on-site soil evaluator within the last 5 years and found to be functioning properly and does not need to be pumped out. The certification requirement became effective October 14, 2014. A listing of certified operators and on-site soil evaluators can be found on the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation website.
