Military Discharge DD-214

The Clerk’s Office will record the original or a properly authenticated copy of either the discharge certificate, the report of separation from active duty (Document DD-214), or both.
Access To Military Discharge Records
Section 17.1-265 of the Code of Virginia provides strict guidelines by which access to military discharges may be granted. To ensure that statutory provisions have been met, the Clerk’s Office requires a photo ID before providing access to the records.
Fees
Recorded free of charge for all veterans.
Certified copies may be obtained pursuant to the guidelines for $2.50 for each certified copy. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. There is a 2% convenience fee added for all credit card transactions.
