Virginia Center Commons Design Charrette

Project Status: Study

Magisterial District:   Fairfield

HELP PLAN YOUR COMMUNITY’S FUTURE!

WHAT IS A CHARRETTE?  A charrette is an intensive planning session where citizens, designers and others collaborate on a vision for development.  It provides a forum for ideas and offers the unique advantage of giving immediate feedback to the designers.  More importantly, it allows everyone who participates to be a mutual author of the plan.  You can explore previous charrettes conducted by the county by following this link:  Public Design Charrettes webpage

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE?  Participating in the charrette will give you a chance to express your vision for the future of properties in your neighborhood.  Your participation will make the difference between good plans and great ones.

WHAT IS THE STUDY AREA?  The study area generally includes Virginia Center Commons mall and surrounding properties east of Brook Road.  A map of the area is linked below.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?  There will be multiple opportunities for you to contribute:

  • Charette Kick-Off and Hands-On Design Session

    Monday March 2 | 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Location: Virginia Center Commons Mall – 10101 Brook Road, Glen Allen – Food Court Entrance
Join the team for an informative presentation on planning and community revitalization.  Following the presentation, work alongside your neighbors to draw your vision for the future of the study area.

  • Open Design Studio

    Tuesday March 3 through Thursday March 5 | 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Location: Virginia Center Commons Mall – 10101 Brook Road, Glen Allen – Food Court Entrance
Stop by the studio to talk with the design team to provide input as the plan evolves.  This will be a unique opportunity to provide feedback as the initial plan ideas are being developed.

  • Work-In-Progress Presentation

    Friday March 6 | 6:00 p.m.

Location: Virginia Center Commons Mall – 10101 Brook Road, Glen Allen – Food Court Entrance
See all of the work completed during the charrette week and the draft ideas for the study area’s future at the “wrap-up” presentation.
