Dunncroft / Castle Point Park Stream Restoration

Project Status: Completed

Estimated Cost: $800,000
Start Date: February 2017
Estimated End Date: Summer 2017

Magisterial District:   Brookland

Henrico County, Department of Public Works will restore approximately 2000 feet of an unnamed tributary to Meredith Branch. This project will utilize natural stream design to 1) recreate a more natural and stable cross section and profile of this stream system 2) stabilize the severely eroding stream banks and stream bottom and 3) reconnect the stream with its floodplain. This design will reduce the amount of phosphorous, nitrogen and sediment being transported by this tributary and ultimately improve the water quality of the Chickahominy River and the Chesapeake Bay.

Public Works has worked with Recreation & Parks and Hungary Creek Middle School to minimize the negative impacts to the Park and School activities. The restoration will require that the Disc-Golf Course and associated trails be temporarily closed. However; the playground, picnic shelter, ball field, and school access from Tameo Rd will not be affected.
