Summary of Actions Taken by the Board on December 12, 2006

Mr. Glover led the Board, staff, and public in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rev. John G. Briggs, Jr., Associate Pastor, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, provided the invocation.

The Board approved the minutes of the November 28, 2006 Regular and Special Meetings and March 20 – 23, 2006 Special Meeting.

MANAGER’S COMMENTS

This year’s National Night Out event was the largest ever, involving 35.2 million people in 11,125 communities.  The Henrico County Division of Police recently received an award from the National Association of Town Watch for its successful National Night Out Program.  This award was one of only 26 given in the competition category.  With the assistance of the Neighborhood Watch Council, personnel within the Division’s Community Policing Section worked very hard throughout the year to plan and execute this internationally recognized crime prevention program.  Col. Henry W. Stanley, Jr., Chief of Police, recognized Lt. Carl Mueller, Officer John Woodson, and Officer John Cutchin for their diligent work with this program.

Mr. Hazelett noted the large volume of non-cash gifts on display in the Board Room that County employees had donated to the 2006 Henrico Christmas Mother and announced that Sheriff’s Office employees had contributed 84 new bicycles.   After expressing appreciation for all the personal efforts undertaken throughout the County government organization related to the Christmas Mother Program, he recognized County government Christmas Mother Program Chair, Barbara Poole of the County Manager’s Office, and her Co-Chair, Lisa Orlosky of the Department of Information Technology.  Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Orlosky presented a ceremonial check in the amount of $11,960 to the Henrico Christmas Mother, Christine Hardin, on behalf of County employees and officials.  Mrs. Hardin thanked County employees for their extraordinary generosity under the guidance of Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Orlosky.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

Mrs. O’Bannon recognized the following Boy Scouts from Troop 737, sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church:  Luke Yesbeck, who was observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for both the Communications Merit Badge and Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge; and Collin Martella, who was attending the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge for the rank of Eagle Scout.

Mr. Donati announced that Mr. Thornton would be undergoing knee surgery the following morning and asked the audience to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Kaechele noted that Mrs. O’Bannon would also be undergoing surgery the following morning for her shoulder.
