Summary of Actions Taken by the Board on September 26, 2006

 

Mr. Glover led the Board, staff, and public in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chaplain Dean Collings provided the invocation.

The Board approved the minutes of the September 12, 2006 Regular and Special Meetings.

MANAGER’S COMMENTS

 The Virginia Downtown Development Association (VDDA) has announced a new annual award known as the John Marlles Commitment Award to “recognize the efforts of outstanding volunteers, local government, elected and administrative officials and private sector partners who have dedicated their time, efforts and resources to redevelopment and revitalization.” The award commemorates the life and professional achievements of John R. Marlles, who prior to his death in 2005 served as Director of Planning for Henrico County and later as the County’s first Director of Community Revitalization. VDDA will make its first presentation of the award at its annual conference on October 26 in Suffolk.

Harvey L. Hinson, Deputy County Manager for Community Development, completed his 45 th year of service to the County on September 26. Mr. Hinson began his career with the County as a Survey Party Rodman in 1961 while attending college and progressed through the ranks of the Planning Department before assuming his current position as the County Manager’s “right hand man” in 1992.

 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

 Mrs. O’Bannon recognized the following Boy Scouts who were observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge: Jose Aguirre and Victor Aguirre from Troop 737, sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church; Dustin Greve, Cameron Richardson, and Nicholas Spears from Troop 760, sponsored by Lakeside Presbyterian Church; and Michael Brady, Matthew Fresco, and Joshua Morris, sponsored by Discovery United Methodist Church.

Mr. Glover recognized Olympia Meola of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Resolution Congratulating St. Joseph’s Villa on 75 Years in Henrico County. Mr. Thornton will present the resolution to representatives of St. Joseph’s Villa at the organization’s “KidFest” on September 30, 2006.

Mr. Glover will present a proclamation recognizing October 1 – 7, 2006 as Paralegals’ Week at the Local Government Paralegals of Virginia ten year anniversary celebration on October 5, 2006.

Mr. Donati presented a proclamation recognizing October 2 – 6, 2006 as Customer Service Week. Accepting the proclamation was Sheryn Hollinsworth, Division Manager of Employee Development and Training for the County’s Department of Human Resources.

Mrs. O’Bannon presented a proclamation recognizing October 2006 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Accepting the proclamation were Beth Bonniwell, Domestic Violence Coordinator for the County’s Division of Police, and Shannon Heady, Executive Director of Safe Harbor. Joining them from the Division of Police were Lt. K. Steven Schaaf of the Criminal Investigations Section for Violent Crimes and Sgt. Cynthia Wood of the Special Victims Unit.

Mr. Glover presented a proclamation recognizing October 2006 as Henrico History Month. Accepting the proclamation was Sarah Pace, President of the Henrico Historical Society. Joining her in the audience from the Historical Society were Linda Dickerson, 1 st Vice President for Programs; Gayle Davis, 2 nd Vice President for Membership; and Trevor Dickerson, member.
