Summary of Actions Taken by the Board on March 22, 2005

 

Mr. Thornton led the Board, staff, and public in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Rev. Don Runion, Pastor, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, provided the invocation.

 

The minutes of the March 8, 2005 Regular Meeting were approved.

 

MANAGER’S COMMENTS

Mr. Hazelett noted that Mr. Kaechele was absent from the meeting due to an out-of-town commitment.

 

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

 

Mr. Thornton recognized the following Boy Scouts who were observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge:  Brant Tullidge from Troop 799, sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church; and Brian Oliver, from Troop 777, sponsored by St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.

 

RECOGNITION OF NEWS MEDIA

Mr. Thornton recognized the presence of Meredith Bonny of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Tom Lappas of the Henrico Citizen, and Jonathan Spiers of the Henrico County Leader.

 

PRESENTATIONS

Mr. Thornton presented a proclamation recognizing April 10 – 16, 2005 as County Government Week.  Accepting the proclamation was Gary Boyd, Supervisor of Community Relations, Marketing, and Publicity for the Division of Recreation and Parks and 2004 Excellence in Public Service Award winner.  Joining him were Jane Klosky, Human Resources Information Systems Manager for the Human Resources Department and 2003 Excellence in Public Service Award winner; Jeanne Daiger, Secretary for the Department of Finance’s Revenue Division and 2002 Excellence in Public Service Award winner; Capt. Douglas Reynolds, Station 14, Division of Fire and 2001 Excellence in Public Service Award winner; and Hanna Fox, Senior Human Resources Analyst for the Human Resources Department and 2000 Excellence in Public Service Award winner.


Mr. Glover presented a proclamation recognizing April 10 – 16, 2005 as Crime Victims’ Rights Week.  Accepting the proclamation was Shelly Shuman-Johnson, Victim/Witness Director for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.  Joining her from the County’s Victim/Witness Program staff were Nikki Johnson, Program Coordinator; Jenelle Kirkpatrick, Program Assistant; and Crissy Roth, Protective Order Specialist. 

 

Mr. Thornton presented a proclamation recognizing April 10 – 16, 2005 as Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week.  Accepting the proclamation was Henry Stanley, Jr., Chief of Police.  Joining him were Lt. Col. Doug Middleton, Deputy Chief; Maj. Mike Batten, Community Operations/Support; Capt. Alan Winderweedle, Commander of Communications; Vince Windom, Communications Officer of the Year; and Communications Supervisors Val Jackson, Terry Senghas, Steve Weis, and Iris Woodson.

 

Mrs. O’Bannon presented a proclamation recognizing April 2005 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Accepting the proclamation was Angela Merritt Verdery, Associate Director for Greater Richmond SCAN.  Joining her were Jane Crawley, Assistant Director of Social Services, and Gretchen Icard, Child Protective Services Supervisor for the Department of Social Services.

 

Mr. Thornton presented a proclamation recognizing April 2005 as Keep Henrico Beautiful Month.  Accepting the proclamation was M. J. Cline, Chairperson of the Keep Henrico Beautiful 25th Anniversary Subcommittee.  Joining her was Arthur Petrini, Director of Public Utilities.  Also in the audience were Chris Harris, Chairperson of the Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee and Committee members Doris Davis, Janet Kay, and Zynora Manson.  The Ward Elementary School Rising Stars performed a song written and directed by Rev. Manson commemorating the Keep Henrico Beautiful Program’s 25th anniversary.  

 

Mr. Donati presented a proclamation recognizing April 2005 as Kite Month.  Accepting the proclamation was Charles Stonestreet, a member of the Richmond Air Force Kite Club.  Joining him were club members Laura Stonestreet, Adrianne Balmer, and Mearl Balmer.
