Summary of Actions Taken by the Board on February 22, 2005

 

Rev. Eddie Hendrix, Pastor, Church of Christ, provided the invocation.

 

The minutes of the February 8, 2005 Regular Meeting were approved.

 

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Richard Fowler, a resident of the Brookland District, expressed concerns and raised a number of questions regarding the upcoming $349.3 million General Obligation Bond and Meals Tax Referendum.

 

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

 

Mr. Kaechele recognized the following Boy Scouts from Troop 780, sponsored by Epiphany Lutheran Church, who were observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge:  Matthew Coffey, Jerome Golfman, Noah Golfman, Aaron Hartness, Jesse Raynor, and Samuel Wilson.  Scoutmaster Bill Coffey was also present.

 

Mrs. O’Bannon recognized the following persons in the audience who were representing Carver Elementary School at a public hearing on amendments to the County’s 2004-05 Annual Fiscal Plan:  Kathy Theado, PTA President; Bob Price, PTA Technology Committee Chairman; and John Thomas, Information Specialist.  She also recognized Ed Pruden, Principal of Douglas Freeman High School, who was present for the same public hearing.

 

Mr. Thornton recognized Sam Pasco from Boy Scout Troop 799, sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church.  He also recognized Mark D’Alessandro, Michael D’Alessandro, and Paul Duckworth from Troop 747, sponsored by Gayton Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Kaechele commented on a letter from a senior citizen in his district who received assistance from the County’s Division of Fire after sustaining serious injuries from a fall at Regency Mall on February 15, 2005.  The citizen expressed appreciation for the professionalism, promptness, and courtesy shown to him by the firefighters from Station 9 on Quioccasin Road.  Mr. Kaechele recognized Fire Chief Ronald L. Mastin for his department’s superior service in this incident.

 

Mr. Thornton noted that February 2005 was African-American History Month.  He acknowledged the recent passing of Robert R. Merhige, Jr., a retired U. S. District Court judge for the Richmond division, and Ossie Davis, a nationally acclaimed thespian and movie director. 

 

RECOGNITION OF NEWS MEDIA

Mr. Thornton recognized the presence of Meredith Bonny of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Tom Lappas of the Henrico Citizen, and Jonathan Spiers of the Henrico County Leader. 

 

PRESENTATION

 

Mrs. O’Bannon presented a proclamation recognizing March 3, 2005 as University of Richmond Day in salute to the university for its numerous successes and achievements during the past 175 years.  Accepting the proclamation from the University of Richmond were Kathryn J. Monday, Vice-President for Information Services and Chair of the 175 Anniversary Committee, and Claire M. Rosenbaum, Member of the Board of Trustees.
