April is National Arab American Heritage Month

In 2017, the Arab America Foundation launched the National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM) initiative to recognize the achievements of Arab Americans. Celebration with special events and proclamations issued from across the country represented appreciation for the Arab American communities’ rich heritage and numerous contributions to society. Congress, the Department of State and 37 state governors supported the initiative by issuing proclamations in 2021. By 2022, Illinois, Oregon and Virginia passed permanent legislation designating April as National Arab American Heritage Month, with similar legislation pending in Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Rhode Island.
