Henrico taps Tretina for chief of staff position

Henrico County has appointed Cari M. Tretina as chief of staff to the county manager, effective Saturday, Oct. 12.  

Tretina currently serves as director of administration for Henrico’s Division of Fire, a position she has held since April 2017. She joined the county staff in May 2013 as a budget analyst and also has worked as a management specialist in the County Manager’s Office. Before becoming a full-time staff member, Tretina participated in the county’s internship program, working with the Department of Finance in the summers of 2011 and 2012 and the winter of 2013.

As chief of staff, Tretina will work with the county manager on special projects, including research and data analysis, preparation of speeches and presentations, and other assignments. She will collaborate with the Board of Supervisors, department heads and other county officials and stakeholders on issues impacting the interests and operations of the county. She also will serve as a liaison for the county administration with the public, elected officials, regional partners and other governmental agencies.

Tretina is the first to hold the position of chief of staff.

Tretina earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and public relations from Eastern Kentucky University. She is a graduate of the Metro Richmond Public Safety Leadership Academy and the University of Virginia’s LEAD Program. She is on track to receive a graduate certificate in public management from Virginia Commonwealth University in December.
