Henrico Extension to offer butterfly container workshop June 14

Master Gardeners also hosting monthly Pollinator Garden tours at Short Pump Park

The Henrico County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension will hold a workshop Thursday, June 14 on making a butterfly container.

The class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and will begin in the pavilion of Short Pump Park, 3329 Pump Road. Participants will make their own container with butterfly nectar and larval host plants. Master Gardeners also explain the life cycle of a butterfly, discuss the best plants for attracting butterflies and other pollinating insects, and give tours of the park’s Pollinator Garden.

The workshop costs $20 and is open to adults only. All materials, including a 12-inch container, potting soil and nectar and larval butterfly plants, will be provided. The class is held in conjunction with National Pollinator Week, which will be June 18-24.

To register, call the Extension office at (804) 501-5160. For more information, go to henrico.us/extension.

In addition, Master Gardeners will be available for questions and tours of the Pollinator Garden at Short Pump Park on the second Sunday of each month, beginning in June. The Master Gardeners in the Garden sessions will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on June 10, July 8, Aug. 12 and Sept. 9.
