Sep 16: Meuse-Argonne Offensive
The Meuse-Argonne Offensive began in September of 1918 and continued right up until the Armistice of November 11. Standing in the records of the First World War as the most critical military contribution of the United States to the Allied cause, it also stands as one of the deadliest battles in all of American military history. This talk will explore the attacks of Pershing’s American Expeditionary Force and the vivid experiences of the Doughboys who made them. Listen to historian, Michael Thomas, as he shares the story of this important battle.

Oct 14: Occupation of Germany
America’s involvement in WWI marked its first major entry into European politics. With a starting strength of a quarter million Doughboys, the Americans began their occupation period in the German Rhineland in December 1918. When it ended in 1923, the force consisted of one thousand soldiers. Many future WWII leaders served in this force; including five who would become Marine Commandant, four Army Chiefs of Staff, ten four-star Generals, and, surprisingly, a National Football League Head coach. Listen to historian, Al Barnes, share this little-known story of The Great War’s aftermath.

Nov 11: The Troubled Peace
In June 1919, the Allied nations signed the Treaty of Versailles with Germany, ending the First World War. The treaty forced the Germans to admit sole responsibility for the war, imposed a huge indemnity that destroyed the German economy during the early 1920s, and humiliated the German people, who vowed to take their revenge. Listen to Professor Mark Malvasi, as he shares the interesting story of the armistice and its legacy.
