Mar 9: The Life of Widows
Life for a 19th century widow has been referred to as “Civil Death.” Learn how the existence of a woman following her husband’s death depended heavily on the kindness of male relatives. Explore how the Sheppard women of Meadow Farm fared as they outlived their spouses, often by decades.
Apr 6: Mosby Had a Little Lamb
April is the month the lambs are born and the sheep are sheared! While visiting our flock, discover how Mosby Sheppard bought, raised, and used sheep to enhance his farm operation.
May 4: Germs, Epidemics, and Medicine
In the age before hand sanitizer, learn how Dr. Sheppard and other doctors dealt with the major disease epidemics in Richmond in the mid-19th century.

Surviving the killing fields of World War I, soldiers such as Sheppard Crump of Meadow Farm preserved memories and memorabilia from their days in the war. Join us as we explore the Crump collection, including the memories and oral history from Crump’s wife, Elizabeth A. Crump.
