The Henrico County office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension is recruiting volunteers who will be trained to promote financial literacy among military veterans and others in the community.
Henrico Extension is working with Extension offices in Chesterfield County and the cities of Richmond and Petersburg to prepare a new class of Master Financial Education Volunteers. Volunteers will receive 20 hours of class instruction and homework on financial literacy so they can share tips and information with neighborhood and civic groups, military veterans and others who may be struggling to make ends meet.
In partnership with local Extension offices, Master Financial Education Volunteers will be expected to provide at least 20 hours of service, covering such topics as managing money, improving credit, reducing debt and planning for homeownership.
A two-day training session will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 20 in the demonstration kitchen of the Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive. The cost to participate is $30 and covers a training manual as well as lunch and refreshments both days. Applications are due by Monday, Aug. 8.
