The mission of the Virginia Newcomer Health Program is to provide an initial health screening to newly arrived refugees and other qualified individuals, address health issues that may impact successful resettlement, and identify and intervene on diseases and conditions of public health concern.

  • Refugee Clinic (Newcomers Health) services provided in West Clinic only.
  • Provides health screening, referral, counseling and education for newly-arrived refugees.
  • Immunizations provided for Adjustment of Status (Green Card)
  • Refer to local area medical providers for medical follow-up
  • Refugees are not charged for services


There is no charge for Newcomer Health Screening.  Immunizations are free for the first year.

How to Receive this Service

Most appointments are made through the Refugee Resettlement Agency.  Individuals who are not affiliated with this organization can call 804-501-4651 to make an appointment. 

Newcomers Health services are available only at the West Clinic

Must be part of a group that is eligible for refugee benefits: Refugees, Asylees, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) Holders, Central American Miners (CAMS), Cuban and Haitian Entrants, Unacompanied Minors, Amerasians, Trafficking Victims, Victims of Torture.
