The Henrico County Department of Community Revitalization is pleased to offer the third annual series of free workshops to help residents maintain and improve their homes.
The 2017-18 program will include three short sessions as part of Henrico’s Community Day on October 7, 2017 at the Western Government Center and three full programs at the Eastern Government Center in November, February, and March. More details are below.

Saturday, October 7, 2017 – Community Day Mini-Sessions
Western Government Center
10:15 – 11:15: Home Safety. Learn how small changes in your home can improve your safety as you age. We’ll talk about how to prevent falls, ways to modify your home for changing abilities, and assistive devices to help with daily tasks.
11:30 – 12:30: Home Repair. Many small home repairs are easy for homeowners to tackle themselves! Learn how to patch holes in your drywall and how to undertake minor plumbing repairs such as fixing a running toilet.
12:45 – 1:45: Seasonal Maintenance. Learn how to prepare your home for cold weather as well as the kinds of annual maintenance that will keep your home in great shape.
Community Day runs from 10am – 2pm.
Workshops in November, February, and March will be held at the Eastern Government Center. Doors open at 8:30 am to allow time to visit exhibitors with presentations by local experts beginning at 9:00 am. Each workshop includes hands-on demonstrations and activities as well as door prizes and light refreshments. Workshops will conclude by 12:15 pm.
Saturday, November 4, 2017 – Home Repair and Maintenance. Learn how to undertake minor repairs such as fixing water leaks, how to spot potential problems, and maintaining your heating system and preparing your home for cold weather.
Saturday, February 3, 2018 – Home Safety. Get hands–on tips to help you prepare your home for aging-in-place and other ways to improve your safety inside your home. And learn how to save money and protect yourself when hiring a contractor.
Saturday, March 3, 2018 – Outdoor Improvements. Learn how to maintain and repair your wood deck so it lasts for years to come. Plus, get ready for spring with techniques to create a sustainable lawn and keep shrubs and other plantings healthy.
