Summary of Actions Taken by the Board on May 8, 2007

 

Mr. Donati led the Board, staff, and public in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Rev. Robert P. Odle, Pastor, Church of Christ, provided the invocation.

 

The Board deferred approval of the minutes of the April 24, 2007 Regular and Special Meetings and the April 20, 2007 Special Meeting to May 22, 2007.

 

MANAGER’S COMMENTS

Assistant County Attorney Rhysa South, who has worked for the Henrico County Attorney’s Office since 1987, was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia (LGA) at the organization’s April 19, 2007 annual spring conference.  LGA is a statewide organization of over 650 public and private lawyers who practice local government law.

 

Assistant County Attorney Ellen Fulmer, who joined the Henrico County Attorney’s Office in 2000, was elected President of the Henrico County Bar Association at the organization’s April 27, 2007 annual banquet.  In addition to providing services to its 294 members, the association performs civic and charitable projects for the community.  Ms. Fulmer is the fifth person from the Henrico County Attorney’s Office to become president of the association.   

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

Mrs. O’Bannon advised the Board and public of the May 19 – 22, 2007 Godspeed visit to Henricus Historical Park.  She noted that this visit is tied to the 21st annual celebration of the founding of the 1611 Citie of Henricus and to the 400th anniversary of America.  Mrs. O’Bannon reviewed the activities scheduled at Henricus to commemorate the Godspeed’s arrival and pointed out that there will be free admission to the Godspeed.  More information on the event is available on The Citie of Henricus web site at www.henricus.org. 

   

Mr. Donati announced that he and Mr. Hazelett were the first two Virginians to welcome Queen Elizabeth II when she arrived at Richmond International Airport on May 3, 2007.

 

Mr. Donati recognized Rand Irby from Boy Scout Troop 418, sponsored by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, who was observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Eagle Scout rank.

RECOGNITION OF NEWS MEDIA

Mr. Donati recognized Will Jones of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

 

PRESENTATIONS

Mr. Kaechele presented a proclamation recognizing May 2007 as Drug Court Month.  Accepting the proclamation was the Honorable Gary A. Hicks, Chief Judge of the Henrico County Circuit Court.  Joining him from the County’s Drug Court Team were Patricia A. Shaw, Drug Court Administrator; Casey Swain, Drug Court State Probation Officer; and Kenneth Johnson, Drug Court participant. 

 

Mr. Donati presented a proclamation recognizing May 13 - 19, 2007 as Law Enforcement Officers Week and May 14, 2007 as Law Enforcement Memorial Day.  Accepting the proclamation was Col. Henry W. Stanley, Jr., Chief of Police.  Joining him from the County’s Division of Police was Maj. Mary Ellen Fahed.

 

Mrs. O’Bannon presented a proclamation recognizing May 20 – 26, 2007 as Emergency Medical Services Week.  Accepting the proclamation was Al Echols, a member of the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.
