Summary of Actions Taken by the Board on May 23, 2006

Mr. George T. Drumwright, Jr., Deputy County Manager for Community Services, provided the invocation.

The minutes of the May 9, 2006 Regular and Special Meetings were approved.

MANAGER’S COMMENTS

The TV Inspection Group in the Operations Division of the Department of Public Utilities recently received recognition for its dedication and innovation in a Municipal Water and Sewer magazine article titled “Off-Road Warrior.”  While providing background information on Henrico County and the County’s wastewater collection system, the April 2006 article mainly focused on the crew’s conversion of an amphibious all-terrain vehicle into a go-anywhere closed circuit TV inspections mobile platform. This all-terrain vehicle allows the Department of Public Utilities to access and inspect sewer lines in any type of terrain and also allows water crossings.  Mr. Hazelett acknowledged the efforts of the TV Inspection Group, who were represented at the meeting by Engineering Aides Tim P. Yuhas, Bert R. Gordon, Jr., Stuart G. Coughlan, III, and James E. Young, Jr.  Joining them were Arthur D. Petrini, Director of Public Utilities, and Thomas D. Alford, Chief of Operations.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

Mr. Glover recognized the following Boy Scouts from Troop 795, sponsored by Glen Allen Baptist Church, who were observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Communications Merit Badge:  Noah Ferguson, John Kizer, Sam Kizer, Tom Kizer, and Alton Trainum.  Also present was Noah’s mother, Ginny Ferguson.

Mr. Glover recognized Olympia Meola of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Tom Lappas of the Henrico Citizen.
