BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ COMMENTS

Mrs. O’Bannon recognized Travis Knapp from Boy Scout Troop 737, sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Atticus Woodruff from Boy Scout Troop 436, sponsored by St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, who were present earlier in the evening for the budget public hearing.  She recognized Bobby Adams and Doug Johnson from Boy Scout Troop 795, sponsored by Glen Allen Baptist Church, who were observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Communications Merit Badge. Mrs. O’Bannon also recognized the following Boy Scouts from Troop 799, sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church, who were observing the meeting to fulfill a requirement for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge:  Nathan Brigle, Christopher Horton, and Marc Reiner.  Joining them was Scott Reiner, Marc’s father and a committee member for Troop 799. Mrs. O’Bannon read from and commented on a letter she had recently received from Nathan in which he expressed concerns about drivers exceeding the speed limit in his neighborhood.

Mr. Kaechele paid tribute to a 2005 graduate of J. R. Tucker High School, Pfc. Jeremy W. Ehle, who died from combat wounds on April 2, 2006 while serving his country in Iraq with the United States Army.  Mr. Kaechele asked that the public extend their thoughts and hearts to Pfc. Ehle’s friends, family, and former classmates.  The Board observed a moment of silence in memory of Pfc. Ehle at Mr. Kaechele’s request.

Mr. Donati noted that Richmond International Airport has attracted another low cost carrier, JetBlue Airlines, which is offering service to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.  He pointed out that the recent arrivals of JetBlue and AirTran Airways have resulted in reduced airfares for the Richmond area market and he encouraged the public to use both airlines when traveling.  Mr. Donati currently serves as Chairman of the Capital Region Airport Commission and Mr. Kaechele is also a member of the Commission.

RECOGNITION OF NEWS MEDIA

Mr. Glover recognized Olympia Meola of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Tom Lappas of the Henrico Citizen.
