Henrico to provide free flu shots Oct. 25

The Henrico County Health Department will offer free flu vaccinations to the public Wednesday, Oct. 25 at clinics in western and eastern Henrico.

The seasonal flu shots will be provided from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Adult Education Center, 7850 Carousel Lane, near the intersection of West Broad Street and Parham Road in western Henrico; and from 1 to 7 p.m. at the East Henrico Health Clinic, 1400 N. Laburnum Ave. in eastern Henrico.

The clinics will provide standard-dose flu vaccine to individuals age 3 and older on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

In addition to the flu vaccine, the Henrico County Health Department will offer free home-screening kits for colorectal cancer to qualifying individuals.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), flu season takes place in fall and winter, with the peak occurring anywhere from late November through March. The CDC recommends only injectable vaccines for the 2017-18 flu season.
