Parr appointed director of Henrico Social Services

Henrico County Manager John A. Vithoulkas has appointed Ty F. Parr to serve as director of the Department of Social Services, effective June 24.

Parr has served Henrico Social Services as its Children’s Services Act coordinator since 2014. He will succeed Cynthia J. Steinhauser, who is retiring after serving as director since 2012.

Parr began his career with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice in 1996 and joined Henrico Social Services as a senior social worker in 2008. In 2012, he left to serve as a financial, data and program audit consultant for Virginia’s Office of Children’s Services.

As director of Social Services, Parr will be responsible for the department’s activities, which include providing financial assistance and social services programs that help individuals and families meet their basic needs and increase their independence, and that protect abused and neglected children as well as aged and disabled adults. Social Services will have a budget of $20.6 million and a staff of 198 for fiscal 2017-18.

Parr holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Radford University and a Master of Public Administration from Strayer University. He is a member of the Virginia Association of Local Human Services Officials, the United Way Education Action Council and the Central Virginia Partnership on Youth.
