Henrico holds community summit on heroin and opioid crisis

In response to growing concerns about heroin and opioid abuse and addiction, Henrico County and its Heroin Task Force held a community summit Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Glen Allen High School to engage the community in a search for solutions.

FBI Director James B. Comey and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Acting Administrator Chuck Rosenberg joined Henrico officials in a frank discussion of the issues, challenges and dangers associated with the epidemic.

The community summit included a showing of “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opioid Addict,” a 45-minute documentary produced by the FBI and DEA that provides explicit, first-person accounts of people who have either abused opioids or whose children have abused opioids with tragic consequences. Viewer discretion is advised. The event concluded with a panel discussion that included individuals in recovery, a family member and various officials working on the frontlines of the heroin and opioid crisis.
