For the second consecutive year, Henrico County Television (HCTV) has been named the third best overall government television station in the country, trailing only San Diego and Seattle — stations serving major metropolitan areas.
The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) recognized HCTV for “Overall Programming Excellence,” a category NATOA deems to be of “special significance.” In this category, judges evaluate the variety of programming, technical elements including video quality, audio, lighting and graphics, as well as the overall impression of the station.
“I am thrilled to receive this honor for the second year in a row,” said Public Relations & Media Services Director Tamra McKinney. “To be named the third best government station in the entire country, and to be in the company of major cities like Seattle and San Diego speaks volumes for the quality of HCTV.”
NATOA’s 29th Annual Government Programming Awards were held at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul, Minn. The awards program honors excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. This year, NATOA received 720 entries submitted by local governments across the country.
HCTV is available to Comcast and Verizon cable subscribers on channels 17 and 39, respectively. Programs can also be viewed on Comcast’s Video on Demand (under “Get Local”) as well as online at henrico.us/pr/hctv-program-schedule/online-programs.
