Henrico County’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) encourages the professional growth of current County leaders by offering a competency-based framework and resources for the achievement of employee-designed learning goals.

The LDP, launched in 1996, won the 1997 International Personnel Management Association (IPMA) Virginia Chapter Achievement Award, the 1998 American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) Excellence in Practice Innovative Practice Award, and the 1998 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award.

Joining LDP

Current County supervisors, Police Field Training Officers (FTOs), and Fire Field Training Medics (FTMs) are eligible to join the Leadership Development Program. If you are in these target groups and wish to be a part of LDP, your first step is to sign up for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® for Leaders class. LDP Orientations are offered within each session. LDP Revised

Due to many recent changes in leadership at the County, LDP was redesigned in 2012 to better align with the current overall needs of our organization. The goal of the redesigned LDP is to make it an even more transformational experience by creating more accountability and helping leaders attain more tangible results. Leaders in the revised program are asked to take on tasks such as to develop their leadership brand, complete projects around one or more leadership themes, and participate in a leadership discussion group that culminates in actionable skills.
