The Division of Fire projects that by 2011 there will be more than 44,000 calls for service each year. The 2005 Bond Referendum that was supported and passed by the citizens in March 2005 contained projects to help Division of Fire prepare for this increased demand for service. The projects proposed included the construction of 1 new fire station, additions and renovations to two existing stations, the razing and reconstructions of two stations, and the relocation of one station.
Project One (New Fire Station)
The first project is the construction of a new fire station to be located in the northwest area of the County. Funding for land is included in the bond proposal. This station will house one Engine company, one Ladder company, and one Fire Medic ambulance. There will be 34 personnel assigned to this station. The new station will contain 10,625 square feet, and will enhance service levels in the Northwest portion of the County.
Project Two (Fire Station #3)
This project is the relocation of Fire Station #3 from its current location to a site not far from its current location. The existing station, which responds to more than 2,700 calls annually, was built in 1956, contains 2,790 square feet, and houses an Engine company, a Brush truck, and a Fire Medic ambulance. The new station is 12,625 square feet with a 3,000 square foot exterior training building and grounds and a Division of Police field office. There will be 22 personnel assigned to this station.
Project Three (Fire Station #7)
Project Three is the demolition and on site reconstruction of Fire Station #7. The existing 4,580 square feet station was built in 1964, and responds to more than 2,400 calls annually. The station currently houses one Engine company, one Fire Medic ambulance, and an Emergency Medical Services supervisor with 25 personnel assigned to the station. The new station will contain 10,625 square feet to accommodate this staffing and equipment.
Project Four (Fire Station #9)
Project Four is the demolition and on site reconstruction of Fire Station #9. This station currently houses an Engine company and a Fire Medic ambulance. The existing 4,300 square foot station was built in 1964 and 22 assigned personnel respond to more than 2,200 calls annually. The new station will contain 10,625 square feet.
Project Five (Fire Station #10)
Built in 1962 Fire Station #10 contains 4,215 square feet and houses an Engine company and a Truck company with 25 personnel that respond to more than 3,500 calls each year. Project Five will include a renovation of 1,000 square feet of the station and provide an expansion of 3,885 square feet.
Project Six (Fire Station #13)
Project Six is the renovation and expansion to Fire Station #13. This station responds to more than 2,750 calls annually and currently houses one Engine company, one Fire Medic unit, and one Squad response unit. The station was built in 1986, has 34 personnel assigned to it, and contains 5,478 square feet. Plans include the renovation of 1,000 square feet of the building and an expansion of 3,250 square feet.
