Public Services

As a new resident, you’ll want to know about water and sewer services and rates, our billing process, solid waste disposal and recycling programs. To find out more, visit our Department of Public Utilities home page and the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA).

Natural Gas service is provided by the City of Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities. Visit the City’s Energy Services Division for details.

You’ll also want to know about various County real estate assessments, taxes, licenses and deadlines. See our Finance Department’s home page for more information.

And while we’re on the subject of taxes, you should also check out the Virginia Department of Taxation’s page.

For vehicle licensing locations and information, check the Department of Motor Vehicles site and DMV’s convenient locations in Henrico. Other State offices can be reached through Virginia’s government agency listing.

Henrico County is among the top-rated counties in the nation. One of the reasons we got there is because our citizens actively participate in the community’s affairs. Once you’re settled, you can join in too. A good place to start is registering to vote. Check on voting requirements and registration procedures by visiting our Registrar’s Office.

Living in Henrico isn’t all work. Take a break from the headaches of moving in. We have an excellent Recreation and Parks system which adds greatly to our quality of life. If you’d like a sample of it, see Meadow Farm Museum. The same goes for our first-class Public Library. You owe yourself a visit, whether you’re moving here or just passing through.
