What is Henrico County Drug Court?

Henrico County Drug Court is a structured five phase program. Each phase allows participants the opportunity to earn their way from one phase to the next, with each phase becoming less structured. Failure to comply with the phase requirements will result in immediate sanctions, including incarceration, at Drug Court . Drug Court is held every Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Henrico Circuit Courthouse.

The following is a brief overview of each phase of Drug Court. Additional leisure activities, as well as drug testing sessions, and therapy groups are added as needed.

Orientation Phase One: The goal is the cessation and early stabilization from alcohol and drug use            

Duration: 30 Days Minimum

Requirements:

  • Weekly individual counseling sessions
  • Group treatment two times per week
  • Develop individual treatment plan with Clinician.
  • Weekly court appearance
  • Supervision meeting at least once per week
  • Pay Drug Court fee of $50/month
  • Two home visits and one employment check per month (at least), if applicable
  • Randomized urine drug and alcohol screening at least three times per week

Stabilization Phase Two: The goal is to increase recovery skills and resources

Duration: 60 Days Minimum

Requirements:

  • Bi-weekly individual counseling
  • Group treatment three times per week
  • Participation in at least two self-help or community support groups per week
  • Court appearance every week
  • Supervision meeting once every week
  • Two home visits and one employment check per month (at least), if applicable
  • Randomized urine drug and alcohol screening at least three times per week
  • Obtain employment or be in school (or GED program)
  • Pay Drug Court fee $50/month

Action Phase Three: The goal is to continue to strengthen recovery and improve overall manageability

Duration: 90 days minimum

Requirements:

  • Individual counseling every three weeks
  • Group treatment three times per week
  • Participation in at least two self-help community support groups per week
  • Court appearance every other week
  • Supervision meetings two times a month
  • Randomized urine drug and alcohol screenings at least three times per week
  • Home visits one time per month and one employment check per month (at least)
  • Maintain 30 hours/week of employment or education program
  • Develop individual relapse prevention plan with clinician
  • Pay Drug Court fee $50/month

Maintenance Phase Four: The goal is preparation for ongoing recovery and integration into the general community

Duration: 120 days minimum

Requirements:

  • Individual counseling every four weeks
  • Group treatment up to twice per week
  • Family and groups as needed
  • Participation in at least two self-help community support groups per week
  • Court appearance once per month
  • Randomized urine drug and alcohol screening at least two times weekly
  • One home visit and one employment check per month (at least)
  • Supervision meeting twice per month
  • Maintain 30 hours/week of employment or education program
  • Pay Drug Court fee $50/month

Transition Phase Five: The goal of this phase is to prepare for integration

Duration: 60 days minimum

Requirements:

  • Bi-weekly individual sessions
  • Pay Drug Court fee of $50/month
  • Supervision meeting one time per month
  • One home visit and one employment check per month (at least)
  • Randomized urine drug and alcohol screening at least two times weekly
  • Attend Alumni group weekly

Graduation

In order to graduate from Drug Court, the participant must (in addition to the above):

  1. Demonstrate abstinence from all mood-altering substance for 90 consecutive days
  2. Complete an appropriate continuing care plan
  3. Successfully complete all treatment phases
  4. Be employed or in school, engaged in volunteer services, or receiving verified disability
  5. Pay any Drug Court program fees in full
  6. Have at least 2 approved community support persons (only one can be a family member)
